Iran Warns of Prolonged Conflict If War With US Resumes

In a stark warning, Iran has cautioned that any new conflict with the United States could extend beyond previous engagements, emphasizing that Washington would not be able to dictate the terms of its conclusion. This assertion comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve tensions between the two nations.

Iranian army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia highlighted that any future military confrontation could last longer than past conflicts, underscoring Tehran’s intention to determine its response to any aggression. Echoing these sentiments, Iranian Defence Minister Mehrdad Akhlaghi warned that any attack on Iran would provoke a proportionate and decisive retaliation, asserting that Iran would not allow its adversaries to control the scale, timing, or outcomes of its defensive actions.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps added to the rhetoric, suggesting that any potential conflict with the United States would not be confined to a specific geographical area, potentially implicating a broader regional impact.

Despite these warnings, diplomatic initiatives continue as Iranian negotiators engage with Qatari mediators in Doha. These discussions, now in their third day, aim to reach an agreement that could de-escalate the situation. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the talks are focused on continuing consultations with Qatar and reaffirmed Tehran’s readiness to pursue both diplomatic and defensive avenues.

Araghchi also mentioned that negotiations over a proposed two-day initiative are ongoing, although a final agreement has yet to be finalized. Concerns about the resumption of hostilities remain, particularly after the upcoming November 3 US midterm elections.

In the United States, President Donald Trump has indicated that no new military actions against Iran will occur before the elections, while noting the productivity of current negotiations with Tehran. However, he has not ruled out the possibility of military actions afterward, leaving the door open for future developments in this ongoing geopolitical tension.
