Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has commenced mass production of its 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, comprising the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111 models. These ePower™ Stage ICs are engineered for high-performance motion-control applications and feature an integration of high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry within compact QFN packages that are thermally enhanced. Designed to operate up to 100 V, these devices offer current ratings of either 35 A or 20 A, contingent upon the model, and aim to bolster power density and efficiency while simplifying system design.
The product line is equipped with fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss scenarios, and the ability for continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. It also includes single-input PWM options suitable for multi-axis motor-control applications. To complement these new power-stage ICs, EPC is offering the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards. These platforms are built around the latest power-stage ICs and come complete with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, temperature monitoring, and protection functions.
The new GaN devices are distributed globally through EPC’s network, including distributors like Digi-Key and Mouser. They are targeted at a diverse range of applications such as humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. Pricing for the EPC23108 and EPC23109 models is set at US$3.70 each, whereas the EPC23110 and EPC23111 models are priced at US$2.47 each, based on orders of 3,000 units. Meanwhile, the EPC91128 and EPC91129 evaluation boards are available at US$640 each, with the EPC91130 and EPC91131 priced at US$630 each.
EPC is also rolling out a technical white paper, accessible in both English and Chinese, which delves into the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for these new integrated GaN power-stage ICs.
