Trump Launches Task Force to Address AI Risks and Security Concerns

In a bid to address emerging challenges associated with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, President Donald Trump has launched a task force named the “Super Intelligence Force.” The initiative is aimed at coordinating federal AI policy and assessing potential risks across various sectors. Spearheaded by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton, the administration seeks to ensure that the United States maintains its leadership in technological innovation while addressing significant security concerns.

The task force’s mandate includes evaluating AI-related risks in sectors such as financial services, energy, transportation, agriculture, and emergency services. Additionally, it will scrutinize issues related to cybersecurity, biosecurity, water infrastructure, civil liberties, and safeguards for advanced AI systems. The Pentagon, Justice Department, Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Trade Commission are among the federal agencies expected to contribute to these efforts.

According to the charter, the task force has been given 120 days to present recommendations to President Trump. The focus will be on AI risks, security standards, and the implications of excessive regulation. An important aspect of their assessment will be determining whether AI laboratories should be mandated to report security breaches, hacking incidents, and attempts to bypass system safeguards.

Jay Clayton will chair the task force, with vice chairs reported to include FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The group also lists Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth among its members. Former AI adviser David Sacks and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are named as external participants.

This initiative has faced criticism from Democratic lawmakers who question whether the task force can deliver enforceable protections without congressional involvement. The Trump administration, however, maintains that AI oversight should focus on mitigating security and public-safety risks without stifling technological advancement.
