As global conflicts and crises continue to shape international relations, the call for stronger ties between Türkiye and the United States has gained renewed importance. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the necessity of enhanced dialogue and cooperation between the two NATO allies during a recent event in New York, underscoring the potential benefits of closer collaboration amid a turbulent global landscape.
Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala,” Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes that have resulted from the cooperation between Türkiye and the United States, particularly in addressing international issues in the Middle East. He expressed Türkiye’s commitment to bolstering coordination with Washington, suggesting that expanded partnerships could extend into various sectors including nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry.
Erdoğan pointed to Türkiye’s burgeoning defense sector as a key area for potential growth, noting that the country’s defense exports have surged from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He projected that Türkiye could soon position itself among the world’s top 10 largest defense exporters. To facilitate this growth, Erdoğan advocated for the removal of barriers and an increase in opportunities for joint defense production between the two countries.
In addition to defense, Erdoğan encouraged U.S. investors to explore the burgeoning opportunities in Türkiye, citing new incentives and foreign investment as part of Ankara’s competitive investment framework. He announced a new investment drive aimed at attracting international business ventures.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons also spoke at the gala, highlighting the longstanding partnership between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of business ties and entrepreneurship in strengthening the diplomatic and economic relations between Türkiye and the United States. The event served as a platform for senior officials and business leaders from both countries to celebrate the enduring alliance and explore avenues for future cooperation.
