The United States and Jordan have unveiled a fresh trade agreement designed to bolster economic ties, reduce trade impediments, and generate new opportunities for businesses in both nations. Under this new arrangement, Jordan will maintain duty-free access for the majority of American goods entering the country. The two nations will collaborate to eliminate logistical and trade obstacles, enhancing the flow of commerce between them.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer noted that this agreement aligns with President Donald Trump’s strategy to deepen economic and strategic partnerships across the Middle East while opening new markets for American exporters. Meanwhile, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, highlighted that Jordanian exports to the US will incur a 10 percent tariff, whereas US exports to Jordan will continue to be exempt under their existing free-trade agreement. He expressed optimism that the deal would foster increased investment between the countries.
Back in 2001, the US and Jordan signed a free-trade agreement, marking Jordan as the first Arab nation to establish such a pact with Washington. By 2010, all duties under this agreement had been abolished, paving the way for a smoother trade relationship. The latest trade agreement builds on this longstanding partnership, aiming to further enhance economic cooperation.
According to US government data, trade between the two countries reached $5.34 billion in 2025. Jordan’s key exports include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones, reflecting its diverse industrial base. Its major import partners comprise China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, indicating its strategic economic connections.
